High-risk pregnancy care in Islamabad.

Some pregnancies need extra attention — whether because of a maternal health condition, a complication that develops during pregnancy, a multiple (twin) pregnancy, or the baby's position. Prof. Ghazala Mahmud has extensive experience managing complex and high-risk pregnancies, providing close monitoring and reassurance when it matters most.

When a pregnancy may be "high-risk"

Existing conditions such as high blood pressure or diabetes
Pregnancy-related complications that develop over time
Carrying twins or more
A history of pregnancy difficulties
Concerns about the baby's growth, wellbeing or position

Being labelled "high-risk" does not mean something will go wrong — it simply means closer attention, so that anything that arises can be managed promptly.

Breech presentation

When a baby is positioned bottom-first (breech) towards the end of pregnancy, there are options to discuss. One of these is a procedure called external cephalic version (ECV), in which a specialist attempts to gently turn the baby to a head-down position. Whether ECV is suitable depends on your individual circumstances, and it is always discussed thoroughly beforehand. Prof. Mahmud has particular experience in this area of obstetric care, including published research on predicting the success of external cephalic version.

Frequently asked

High-risk pregnancy questions

What does "high-risk pregnancy" mean?

It means your pregnancy needs closer monitoring than usual — for example because of a health condition, a complication, twins, or the baby's position. It does not mean a problem is certain to occur.

My baby is breech — what are my options?

Options are discussed based on your situation and may include a procedure to gently turn the baby (external cephalic version) or planning delivery accordingly. Everything is explained beforehand.

Can twins be managed at this clinic?

Yes. Multiple pregnancies are managed with closer monitoring. Your individual plan is discussed with you.
